How Our AI Trading Bot Works
Trader-Intel is an autonomous AI paper trading platform that manages a simulated $100,000 portfolio across cryptocurrency markets 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. No real money is involved — this is a transparent experiment in algorithmic trading where you can watch every decision the AI makes and understand exactly why it made it.
Unlike black-box trading bots that only show results, Trader-Intel shows the full reasoning behind every single trade: the technical signals that triggered it, the confidence score, confirming and contradicting indicators, risk-reward analysis, and the AI's own narrative explanation.
The Trading Strategies
The AI runs multiple named trading strategies simultaneously. Each strategy has its own independent $100,000 bankroll and performance tracking, so you can compare different approaches head-to-head on the live leaderboard.
Rides strong directional moves using RSI, MACD, Bollinger Bands, and SMA crossovers. Enters when multiple indicators confirm momentum, uses trailing stop-losses to ride winners. Aggressive in bull trends, sits out in chop.
Buys when prices are oversold at the lower Bollinger Band with RSI confirmation. Targets a reversion to the middle band. Thrives in range-bound sideways markets with tight stops and disciplined entries.
Enters on momentum-confirmed breakouts above the upper Bollinger Band. Looks for expanding MACD histograms and strong RSI to confirm genuine breakouts vs. fakeouts. Best in volatile and trending markets.
Quick in-and-out crypto trades targeting 1.5% gains with 0.8% stop-losses. Trades micro bounces off Bollinger Band lows and RSI oversold zones. Auto-closes after 30 minutes. High volume, tight risk control.
Holds positions for hours to days, buying pullbacks in confirmed uptrends (SMA20 > SMA50). Wide 4.5% stops with 12% targets for a strong risk-reward ratio. Fewest but highest-conviction trades.
The buy-and-hold benchmark. Dollar-cost averages into crypto with value-weighted entries — buys more aggressively when RSI is deeply oversold. Very wide 10% stops, 25% targets. Patient capital deployment.
Technical Indicators Used
Every trade decision is based on a combination of proven technical analysis indicators:
- RSI (Relative Strength Index) — Measures overbought/oversold conditions. The AI looks for bounces from RSI below 35 (oversold) and exits above 80 (overbought).
- MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence) — Identifies momentum shifts. A bullish MACD crossover confirms upward momentum.
- Bollinger Bands — Measures volatility and price position relative to a moving average. Lower band touches suggest potential reversals.
- SMA (Simple Moving Average) — 20-period and 50-period moving averages determine trend direction. Price above SMA20 above SMA50 = uptrend.
- ATR (Average True Range) — Measures volatility for dynamic stop-loss and position sizing.
Risk Management
The AI follows strict risk management rules to protect the simulated portfolio:
- 2% Rule: Never risk more than 2% of the portfolio on any single trade
- 30% Max Exposure: No more than 30% of capital deployed in open positions at once
- 3% Daily Loss Limit: Stop opening new trades if the strategy is down 3% for the day
- 15% Drawdown Circuit Breaker: Automatically pause trading if the strategy drops 15% from its peak equity
- Data Freshness Check: Refuse to enter new trades if price data is more than 5 minutes old
Realistic Simulation
To make the paper trading results as close to reality as possible, the simulation includes:
- Slippage modeling: 0.01% to 0.05% random slippage on every order fill
- Commission fees: 0.1% commission on every crypto trade
- Stop-losses and take-profits: Every trade has predefined exit levels
- Position sizing: Dynamic sizing based on volatility and risk rules
Markets Traded
Currently, the AI trades three major cryptocurrencies:
- Bitcoin (BTC) — The largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization
- Ethereum (ETH) — The leading smart contract platform
- Solana (SOL) — A high-performance blockchain
We chose crypto markets for launch because they trade 24/7, allowing the AI to operate continuously without market-hours restrictions. Stock market trading (SPY, QQQ, AAPL, TSLA, NVDA) is planned for a future update.
Data Sources
Price data comes from CoinGecko (primary) with CoinCap as a fallback source. The dashboard shows a live data feed health indicator so you can see the status of each source in real time. If all price feeds go down, the AI automatically pauses trading — it never makes decisions on stale data.
Full Transparency
Every trade the AI makes gets its own permanent page (like /trades/123) showing:
- The exact entry and exit prices
- A confidence score from 1-10
- The primary technical signal that triggered the trade
- Confirming signals that supported the decision
- Contradicting signals the AI chose to override
- The risk-reward ratio
- A plain-English explanation of the reasoning
- The final profit or loss
This level of transparency is intentional. We believe the best way to learn about trading is to watch decisions being made and understand the logic behind them — including the losing trades.
